The Economist Features Video Games

This week's Economist (August 6th - 12th) features video games in their Special Report. "Chasing the Dream" is a great article that summarises current political climate in the industry and discusses the debate over its social impacts. It highlights three key "overlooked factors":

That attitudes to gaming are marked by a generational divide; that there is no convincing evidence that games make people violent; and that games have great potential in education.

Much of it is not new to us gamers, however for most Economist readers, I think it is a very enlightening piece, and I'm glad to see it in an intelligent, mainstream publication. The cover, though, is a bit sensationalistic...

That cover is hilarious.

Probably a good marketing decision, though... A really sensationalistic cover like that is definitely going to reel people in by eliciting a strong response--agreement, disagreement, or a piqued curiosity at the very least--at which point they can enlighten the reader with a more balanced perspective.

Hopefully it will help change some minds.
