Acid for Blood

E3. Blah blah blah. Yes I am reading about E3. Maybe it's because I didn't actually watch any video footage of the press conferences, but I'm underwhelmed by the revelations of the past few days.

According to one of my computer-y friends, Sony is the only one that's doing something truly groundbreaking in terms of its new Cell processor. Apparently, it is this revolutionary processor that will upset the balance of the Force in the processing world. Whatever. However, we all know that it's the software that makes the system, and Sony has a strong third party stable.

Nintendo has yet to show anything revolutionary to me. Being able to play 20 years of its back catalogue is not revolutionary; it's not looking to the future. It's a bonus, sure. Nintendo made a broad presentation, including announcements for the GameCube, DS, and GameBoy Micro. I was sadly disappointed by the lack of detail about the Revolution, but the show is not over yet, so I am hoping that Nintendo has something up their collective sleeves.

All of them have wireless connectivity, and will sport online gaming, and foster online gaming communities. Microsoft is a step ahead of the others, because of their experience with Xbox Live.

What irks me is how everyone is pegging Nintendo as a dark horse, or underdog; either that, or they igore the Big N completely.

Games? Yes, I am interested in games. They made game announcements. I read that there was a short clip of the next-generation Metroid game. I still want specs on the Revolution, and I want to know why it is so revolutionary. Zelda? Ooh, Link can turn into a werewolf -- now all the fanfic writers can add bestiality to their stories (not my joke, read it elsewhere, but found I it funny :-P). Nintendogs coming to the US -- yay!

But has anyone noticed that most of the games announcements for next-generation consoles are sequels? Maybe it's too early to look for anything new... The show hasn't even properly begun yet...

So who is on top at the moment? I think it's too early to say. I can't say it's Nintendo, though.
